The new Ford Fiesta (pictured right) has surpassed all previous records set by Ford by becoming the fastest selling model.

News released by Ford last week show’s 1/4 million models have been produced by their Cologne asembly line in the 9 months since the new version of the popular model was released.  In reaching this landmark it is the first Fiesta to do so in such a short space of time.

Figures released by Jato Dynamics a consultancy who monitor monthly European car sales show in March 52,805 new Fiesta’s were sold making it the top selling model in it’s class knocking the VW Golf off the top spot.

Sales in Europe are expected to continue to be strong despite the current economic downturn.  Sales in North America will start in 2010, where Ford are currently testing the market via their Ford Fiesta Movement campaign where they have given 100 ‘agents’ a Fiesta for 6 months where they will be set monthly tasks / ‘missions’ to report back on.

These well perfoming sales are also backed up by good initial residual prices following a release of figures today from British Car Auctions in Nottingham where some higher specification models achieved a price equal to 87% of it’s original cost way ahead of an expected 75% previously predicted.
